International Animation Day

Charles-Émile Reynaud (1844-1918) made the first performance of his Theatre Optique in Paris in 28th October of 1892. This date is celebrated worldwide as the International Animation Day, as Reynaud exhibited what is considered the first cartoon film.

In commemoration, watch a CGi animation on how the Reynaud's Theatre Optique worked.

Reynaud's films were very charming and sofisticated in terms of narrative, although very rudimentary technically speaking. Here is Pauvre Pierrot, the film he first screened in that night of October 28.
